Principal's Message


August 2010

Dear Hillview Students and Parents,

Welcome to the 2010-2011 school year! We’re very excited and looking forward to a great year. We are proud to announce that Mr. Mayernik will be one of the assistant principals. Mrs. Harris will be replacing him in the ALC. We are in the process of hiring a new 8th grade language arts teacher. We are also happy to introduce and welcome Mr. Chris Mendoza to our Hillview family who will be teaching 7th and 8th grade science.

Wednesday, September 1, 2010 is the first day of school. Classes begin at 8:00 a.m. with the first bell ringing at 7:56 a.m. Dismissal is at 2:41 p.m. Students should leave campus promptly unless they have an after school activity or detention. Parents will be notified if the student needs to stay after school for any reason. We will continue with early release on Tuesdays. Dismissal will be at 1:30 p.m. for all students.

We have a contract with Woodcraft Rangers to provide an after school program called NVISION yourself. Pre-registration for the program will be August 26, 2010 from 11:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. (see attached flyer). We’re looking forward to working with this company and offering parents and students some very positive activities.

There will be a special orientation for incoming 6th graders on Wednesday, August 18, 2010 from 9:00 - 11:30 a.m. in our gym (students should begin arriving at 8:30 a.m.). “Kids Connecting Kids” will be the theme for the morning session with new 6th graders meeting and working with 7th and 8th grade student leaders. During the orientation, 6th graders will meet new friends, get their class schedules, explore the campus and meet some of their teachers. This program is “strictly for kids” and should be a lot of fun!

At Hillview, students must have P.E. clothes by Monday, September 13, 2010. Prices vary by size. Small - extra large are $20.00. Double XX and triple XXX are $24.00 and $26.00 respectively (checks payable to Hillview ASB). We will be selling the clothes on the following days:

We will also be selling sweats. They will be on a pre-sale basis only. Order forms will be with the P.E. clothes.

We have a very strict dress code at Hillview. If you or your child is in doubt about a particular article of clothing, please check with the office before it is worn to school. We believe students come to school to learn and they should dress accordingly.

Class lists for all students will be posted on the windows of room 1 on August 27, 2010. Students will have access to the postings from 7:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. The school day begins with 1st period. Individual schedules will be given to students during their 1st period classes on September 1.

Mark your calendars. Picture Day is September 3, 2010. The Magazine Sale begins September 3, 2010. Back to School Night is Thursday, September 16, 2010.
