Message from the Principal
Welcome to Scott Avenue Elementary School, home of the Scotties. My name is Joan Weiss, the principal, and on behalf of our staff, it is a pleasure to greet you as partners in your child’s educational experience.
Our extraordinary staff (Classroom/Learning Center/Adaptive P.E. teachers; Learning Specialist, Psychologist, Counselors, and Speech/Language Specialist) is dedicated to providing every child with quality instructional experiences that recognize, support and maintain high expectations for all students. Our students are encouraged to strive for excellence and achieve their individual goals. Scott Avenue’s API score is 858.
Our students’ self-esteem is fostered through opportunities to make a positive connection with their school while providing service to others, developing resiliency skills, and cultivating new interests. Among the extracurricular activities that promote this positive connection to school are Student Council, Yearbook Club, School Play, Peacemakers, Safety Patrol, Garden Club, Reading Stars, Valet, and Banking Ambassadors. Self-esteem is built by recognizing students for their successes in the classroom and schoolwide. Effort, achievement, and citizenship are recognized through Student of the Month awards, Principal’s List, our annual CST Assemblies, Trimester Awards Assemblies, and our Kindergarten “Go for the Gold” program. In addition, students are recognized for Outstanding Attendance each trimester. The principal visits frequently with students selected by their classroom teacher as VIPs. Spirit tickets are given to students to reward positive school and playground behavior. These tickets are used to win prizes at our Spirit Ticket Assemblies each trimester.
We believe that a home/school partnership is integral to the success of our students at Scott Avenue. We highly encourage you to become involved and work closely with your child’s teacher, and support their learning at home. Parents are also encouraged to become active members of our PTA, School Site Council and our English Language Learners Committee.
Please know that I maintain an “open door” policy. I invite you to call my office at any time to set up an appointment. I can also be reached through email at jweiss@ewcsd.org. Open lines of communication will enable Scott Avenue to provide the best education possible for your child.
Thank you for visiting our web site.
